Michael Hoffmann is a freelance composer and musician. Although originally a self-taught pianist, he later received training in classical music and composition at the University of Southern Maine. Being a life long gamer, he is a fan of video game music composers including Nobuo Uematsu, Koji Kondo, Matoi Sakuraba, Grant Kirkhope, and David Wise. Some of his favorite game series include Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Donkey Kong Country.
In 2004 he began studying Music at the University of Southern Maine. During his studies at college, he wrote and performed music with the USM Composer’s Ensemble. In the spring of 2010 he received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition. That same year he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with high honors.
In 2013 he began writing for Original Sound Version, a site dedicated to discussing and reviewing game music and game music remixes. At the start of 2014 he became the Managing Editor for the site, a position which he currently holds. When not blogging or writing for Original Sound Version, he works on his own music projects and writes game music arrangements for the Materia Collective.
